A record-high $12.1 billion education spending package passed through the Alabama Senate on Thursday, as did a bill that would revamp the state’s funding formula to better provide for students who cost more to educate.
After months of negotiations, and nearly a year after the original deadline, Republican lawmakers finally put forth and passed a budget this week. North Carolina had not passed a state budget since 2023, causing strain for public institutions, especially public schools, in the interim.
